Listen

As This Girl Can celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2025, we’re reflecting on the recent success our very own Bristol Girls Can Podcast – a six-episode series designed to spark conversations and share vulnerabilities, challenge barriers and create behaviour change, and amplify the voices of women making a difference across movement and activity across Bristol.

Each episode featured a range of inspiring voices making a difference across Bristol’s community.

The podcast series explored six key themes:

  1. An Introduction to the Bristol Girls Can Campaign
  2. Hate Crimes, Discrimination, and Women’s Safety
  3. The Importance of Mental Health
  4. Pre- and Post-Natal Support for Exercise
  5. Mums in Business
  6. The Importance of Role Models

Create

The Bristol Girls Can Podcast was born from a simple yet powerful idea: to create a space where women’s experiences with activity, health, and societal challenges could be shared and celebrated. With the aim of encouraging more women and girls to get active and feel empowered, the podcast tackled critical issues head-on whilst highlighting the joy and benefits of movement and community.

The podcast series featured an impressive lineup of 19 guests, representing a diverse range of organisations including, community sports groups, local businesses, charities and advocacy groups, members from the police as well as team members from the Red Roses, and Women’s Premiership finalists, Bristol Bears (to be released shortly).

Beyond the Podcast: Extra Content and Ripple Effects

The content captured during the podcast recordings extended beyond the episodes themselves which all sit on YouTube and Spotify. On the day of recording, we created engaging short-form content, including quick-fire questions and behind-the-scenes clips, perfect for sharing on social media. These pieces showcased the personalities of our guests and added a fun element to the campaign and have received huge numbers of views on TikTok, including this short.

The ripple effects of the podcast have been key to us understanding the importance of the overall campaign. By connecting more people across Bristol, it is helping us introduce organisations and individuals who might not have crossed paths otherwise. This has helped us strengthen and grow The Network, encouraging more people to champion the message of inclusion and activity. It’s an important reminder of how one project can spark change and inspire collective action when you get a room of passionate people, all trying to achieve the same change across the city.

Looking Ahead

As This Girl Can celebrates a decade of impact, Bristol Girls Can is helping showcase the power of storytelling in driving social change and its a testament to the incredible work that is being done across Bristol to support women and girls and to help create a more active community.

Here’s to ten years of breaking barriers, creating connections, and inspiring action – and to the many more stories yet to be told!

We’re really pleased with not only the end product but the entire process. The team clearly understand our industry and demonstrated why they are regarded as industry leaders throughout the journey. The final videos have gone down really well with clubs and fans alike, and deliver on all of our initial objectives and beyond.
