“Declan from day one has bought an infectious energy to the team. One we didn’t know we needed but one we certainly can’t live without. Not only is Declan showing what a great motion designer and editor he already is but he’s showcasing the desire and ambition to become even better which can only benefit his career and the team at JMP.”

What were your thoughts and feelings when you first joined JMP?

Nervous! I was worried about the commute, at my last place I was quite quiet and really was looking for an opportunity to get out of my shell but here I met so many wonderful people and really came out of my shell.

What’s been your favourite project to work on so far, and why?

Hachette, the character animation and vector art are something I am really proud of! I hope to do similar work in the future. I’ve had the chance to explore character animation and character design which I wasn’t really expecting to. But I am so grateful I did.

For this project I also had to explore some new software which really excited me. Duik, a character rigging software, was really crucial for the execution of this project and has also gone on to be used for our own internal work as well.

What’s been the biggest challenge or learning curve you’ve faced?

Tracking time, Going from TV where they didn’t really care about that because we didn’t have to manage clients. It is still something I struggle with but am slowly getting better.

How has working with the team influenced your creative process?

At first I was nervous about sharing work that I made and liked and cared about with other people because I was worried they wouldn’t like it. However with such an open team, I feel like every bit of feedback that was given to me by the team has made my work better.

If you could go back in time and give yourself one piece of advice on day one, what would it be?

I would say to practice ping pong! So I could destroy everyone in ping pong on my first day and become their king!
