This week, we’re celebrating Roley Kavungi’s 1-year anniversary at JMP! From editing and motion graphics to stepping in front of the camera, he truly does it all. His creativity, innovation, and dedication have made a huge impact, not just within our team but also on the projects he’s brought to life for our clients over the past year.
“As an editor Roley is consistently showcasing the ambition to elevate the work he and JMP are producing, which can only be encouraging given the quality of work he’s already producing. Roley has a warmth that means current and new members of the team naturally gravitate towards him – Playing a large part in the dynamic and culture we have at JMP.”
– Joseph Meredith, Managing Director
Join us as we look back on his journey – read on to hear Roley’s thoughts on this milestone!
I was all of over the place. A big part of me was really excited and confident to get going, but I was also slightly nervous and had a bit of an imposter syndrome when I first started at JMP.
Donna D-Wild Fitness for Bristol Girls Can. I wouldn’t say the challenge was the edit itself! It was the fact that it was outside my comfort zone, so the challenge was trying to add my own style to an edit that was nothing like what I usually cut. After doing it and hearing the feedback, I really grew more confident and believe I can continue to push myself creatively no matter what I’m given to edit.
My favourite edit over the past 12 months has to do with the JMP sports reel – I tried some ideas which were received well, I really pushed myself creatively with trying to make it different from other reels I’ve seen online.
Yeah! I’ve learnt a lot from the team about fundamental tools that have sped-up my workflow and made it more organised. For example using hotkeys, colour coding my timeline and using the enable/disable function instead of completely deleting clips from my timeline. I self-taught myself premiere pro so my workflow has always been all over the place, but I think it’s gotten a lot better since being a part of the team here at JMP.
I take loads of inspiration from my team and all their different styles have influenced the way I approach my newer edits. Joe as well as other members of the team have pushed me a lot with improving my attention to detail and audio mixing.
I’ve always felt that I have loads of creative ideas. Most of them are pretty out there and working and learning from the team has given me the confidence to try some of them as they have been very encouraging. After receiving positive feedback I have been more confident at pitching ideas and speaking up in meetings. Understanding how to effectively use processes like drafting , storyboarding, etc. has helped me to create videos I’m really proud of like Westport tennis and the Sky Bet Building Foundation Fund YouTube advert.
Chaotic. Surreal, and a right blast!
